Nanowrimo. Thou art my friend.

If you don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, and you love to write, please check out the official site and accompanying forums: http://www.nanowrimo.org/

NaNoWriMo, which stands for National Novel Writing Month, is a special challenge to writers to write a 50,000 word novel in a month. The month is November and it starts in 4 days.

The challenge has no prizes to win, merely the satisfaction that you have put forth the effort and poured your heart and soul into a writing project and completed a project. That’s good enough for me.

I know what I’m going to write about this year and I have a guideline. It’s not quite a serious storyline and has an implausible plot, set half in a fantasy realm and half in modern times in an actual city. The novel is more of a parody than anything, prompted by a list of “what not to do in fantasy fiction” topics. I, of course, will use as many of them as possible. This won’t be my Badger novel, but perhaps I can keep the impetus going after the November challenge and actually create a completed working draft of the Badger novel.

Allowing Distraction

October 28, 2007 at 5:36 pm (Badger Patch Press Writer's Challenge)

My excuse for not blogging is that I just haven’t.  I have nothing to show for the past couple of months, therefore nothing much to say.  I suppose that’s a lame excuse.  I could write about any number of things.

This needs discipline- writing needs discipline- and I am going to work on that.  So, I’m setting aside at least an hour a day of uninterrupted time in order to write something, anything, other than roleplay-type adventures.  I have six hours a night. I can easily set aside an hour in there.
